Habitat for Humanity of Wake County is pleased to announce the appointment of Beth Jones as the Chair of the Board of Directors, and the election of five new members: Ed Aldridge of RiverWild, Quincy Amekuedi of Headspace Health, Consuelo Gardner of the Wake County Government, Jim McGlade of Longfellow Real Estate, and John Morgan of Three Ships.  

Local budgets across Wake County and Johnston County have now been officially approved for the 2024 Fiscal Year. And thanks to Habitat Wake’s Advocacy Ambassadors and hundreds of community members advocating for affordable housing funding, local decision makers made significant investments in our community. Advocates wrote comments, spoke at the budget hearings, and attended the hearings decked out in their Habitat t-shirts.

As Pride Month draws to a close, we reflect on the incredible initiatives undertaken by organizations around the world to support and uplift LGBTQ+ communities. This year, we worked to highlight Habitat Wake's core values of inclusivity and affordable housing for all.  From volunteer efforts to awareness campaigns, we were honored to support and uplift those from all communities in celebration of Pride.

On Saturday, June 17th, elected officials from across Wake and Johnston counties came out to Old Poole Place in Raleigh to join in Elected Officials Build Day. Fifteen members of municipal, county, state governments and staff participated by lending their time and energy to building houses alongside Habitat volunteers.

At the Triangle ReStores, reducing, reusing and recycling is the name of the game. Our ten area stores carry a wide variety of gently used home goods, furniture, tools and more. By donating those items that you no longer use, you are helping divert an estimated 5,000 tons of usable items from landfills annually, while also giving your stuff a second life! That is the ultimate win-win situation.

In the Christian tradition, we are in the Easter season. Easter pivots around two days. On Friday, there is the crucifixion. It is as dark as it gets. It appears that darkness wins. On Sunday, there is the resurrection. It is as light as it gets. Hope wins. 

On Wednesday, March 22, advocates from across Wake County came together to participate in Habitat Wake’s 2nd annual Local Lobby Day.

Throughout the day, Habitat volunteers, homebuyers, homeowners, and concerned residents met with local elected officials from the Wake County Commission and Raleigh City Council.  

This month and every month, Habitat Wake celebrates the women who further our mission of bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope.  

As we celebrate and reflect throughout Women’s History Month, we want to highlight our leader, and Habitat Wake’s first-ever female CEO, Patricia Burch.
