June is National Homeownership Month, when we raise awareness about the benefits of owning a home and the importance of making homeownership more attainable for everyone.
Last week, Habitat Homeowner Rae joined nearly 500 Habitat for Humanity leaders, supporters and homeowners in Washington, D.C. to participate in the annual Habitat on the Hill Conference. This gathering provides a platform for Habitat affiliates across the nation to meet with lawmakers and urge them to act on affordable housing solutions. For Rae, it was also an opportunity to share her story directly with her representatives.
With a clipboard in hand and a smile lighting up her face, Ayofemi stepped out into the sunshine at Old Poole Place. Today was a special milestone—her lot selection day.
"I'm really excited and at the same time, it's a lot to choose from, you know?" Ayofemi shared. "It's my first home. They're all beautiful homes. It's just going to be what's the right fit for me and my family"
Habitat for Humanity International is a global Christian housing ministry. At home dedications all over the world, we have a tradition of presenting a Bible to the homebuyers.
We have this tradition because the founders of Habitat started this ministry based on what they read in the pages of the Bible. They were convinced that Jesus was radically inclusive, and so should we be.

What challenges did you face pursuing homeownership?
During the week of June 13-20, Habitat Wake partnered with builders from around Wake and Johnston counties to bring homes from frame to finish for four local families in just seven days through Home Builders Blitz!
At Habitat Wake, our mission is to build homes, communities and hope. Going beyond the bricks and mortar, we partner with homebuyers to build not just homes, but also a sense of stability and belonging—or, as Habitat homeowner Keena puts it, a feeling of “better.”
