RALEIGH, N.C. (May 6, 2026)—Habitat for Humanity of Wake County announces that it is now Habitat for Humanity Greater Raleigh with the expansion into Franklin County. This new name reflects a continued commitment to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope, as Habitat for Humanity expands its reach outside of Wake and Johnston counties.
Habitat for Humanity Greater Raleigh has served Wake County since its founding in 1985 and expanded its impact through a merger with Johnston County in 2018. Now, as Habitat Greater Raleigh expands into Franklin County, an area not currently served by a Habitat affiliate, staff are actively engaging with local officials and community leaders to address the housing needs and establish strategic partnerships.
“We have celebrated some incredible milestones over the past year including our 40th anniversary and the construction of our 1,000th home in Garner,” CEO Patricia Burch said, “And now, as we step into an exciting new chapter in Franklin County, we are more committed than ever that families across the region have opportunity to build strength, stability and self-reliance through homeownership. With a new name and a focus on our mission, our impact will be even greater.”
The need for affordable housing across the region remains significant. One in four local families in Wake, Johnston and Franklin counties is cost-burdened, meaning they pay too much of their income toward housing at the expense of other necessities such as groceries, healthcare and education.
No more than 30% of a family’s budget should be spent on housing for it to be considered affordable. In Franklin County alone, 55% of renters have difficulty affording their homes, with the fair market rent for a two-bedroom home costing around $1,750 a month.
By extending its reach into Franklin County, Habitat for Humanity Greater Raleigh is building on a legacy of impact—bringing its experience, partnerships and people-powered mission to a community where the need for affordable housing continues to grow.
The Habitat ReStores will remain under the same name, as they are known as the Triangle ReStores currently serving Wake and Johnston counties in addition to Orange and Durham counties, with future plans to expand into Franklin County.
