Fall Beloved Build

Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s vision of the "beloved community," Habitat Greater Raleigh's Beloved Build unites diverse faith groups in putting their beliefs into action. Congregations come together to work on construction projects, advocate for affordable housing, and volunteer at Habitat ReStores. Through these efforts, participants embody Dr. King's vision of an integrated, just society — the truest expression of faith in action.

Join us on Saturday, August 29 for our kick-off ceremony and an exciting workday to launch the Fall Beloved Build 2027 campaign. Then schedule a Saturday to send volunteers to build during this campaign. Reach out to Rebecca Hix (rebecca.hix@habitatraleigh.org) for more details.

Harnessing God's Love
The evolutionary scientists and theologians Fr. Teilhard de Chardin, Louis Savary, Patricia Berne and Sister Ilia Delio proclaim that God’s love is the core energy of the universe bringing the basic elements of the universe together. Evolution is “God’s Love Project”, with humanity emerging with the role of advancing this project. Teilhard states, “The day will come when, after harnessing space, winds, the tide and gravitation, humanity shall harness for God the energy of love. And on that day, for the second time in the history of the world, humanity will have discovered fire”.

So many ways to support Habitat!
People of faith have been supporting Habitat since our founding more than 40 years ago. We share a prophetic call to serve those in need of safe, equitable affordable housing. We would not have been able to serve the more than 1,000 families with new homes or supported 700 additional families with repairs, without your support! If you attended our February 21st dedication at Old Poole Place, you heard me say that this is a holy time. This spring, I have been reminded that our various religious ancestors understood that we need regular practices of prayer, fasting, charity and loving each other; to be the people, the community, and the world, God intends us to be.

Quilting Community at Habitat Wake
“The thing about a craft, a handmade art form, is that when you receive the piece, it has love and prayers woven into its very being. And you can’t buy that at Target.”

At Habitat Wake, we hold a longstanding tradition of gifting quilts or afghans to homebuyers when they close on their homes. These pieces are made by community partners, often members of our faith network, and each one carries a patchwork of care, intention and prayer.

Maintaining Peak of Good Living: Habitat Speaks to Apex Town Council
The following is a speech from Habitat Wake founder Rick Beech, delivered to the Apex Town Council on February 10, 2026

I have lived in Apex since 1998. I love living at the “Peak of Good Living”. I was fortunate to move here when families with modest incomes, including many public servants, could afford to live here. I passionately speak tonight with the hope that Apex could again be a place where public servants can live and serve. I plead for the Town’s help so that the dream of serving and living in Apex does not stop with my generation.

Let the Local "Yes, in God's Back Yard" Movement Begin!
April 24, 2025, may very well be the day the Yes in God’s Back Yard movement took hold in our community. After years of discernment and planning, Greenwood Forest Baptist Church received official approval from the Cary Town Council to rezone their underutilized property for their pioneering Carr Center project, making way for 62 units of affordable housing on their campus.
